|

This is an essay I just wrote in my Myspace Blog. Check it out.
| Quote: | RELIGION:
1) Religion blindsides its members into enjoying life for a higher power that is not there.
2) Religion is known to be the dominant cause/effect of wars among humans.
3) Some creeds see either Men or Women as inferior to the other.
4) Martyrs; 72 virgins for suicide (Islam)? Bull-****-shit.
5) Religion causes people to be impatient, judgmental, unforgiving, harsh, cruel, phobic of various things (homophobia for one), idiotic (Again, 72 virgins in 'heaven' is such bullshit), and naive.
6) Religion teaches people to be irrational and illogical about very rational and logical fields of knowledge, such as the origin of the universe, evolution, the time after death, and so on.
7) Bibles of various Creeds clearly ignite images of murdering those who do not believe in, or want to believe in, a certain Creed. Also, especially The Old Testament, it teaches its followers to kill homosexual, atheistic people ('infidels' as they have been called), unjust women (not exactly 'loyal' to the men as the Bible sees it), and people of other creeds.
8) Religion is said to teach about proper morality (being good, not murdering one another, not to steal or cheat, etc.). If an individual analyzes various Bibles with care and competence, one can uncover many flaws and hypocrises in the so-called moral do's and don't's.
GOD:
1) The image of God by creed, notably of Old Testament, is a sinister one. He is seen as a mysogynistic, homophobic, murderous and genocidal, lying, rash, impatient, cruel, and hateful fictional being.
2) People take their own lives believing they will meet God and their life will be purified. Talk about irony.
3) Various Creeds claim that their God gave an order to wipe out another Creed/God. Thus the reason why religion fuels wars.
4) People limit themselves in so many ways that would benefit themselves just to worship their God.
5) People believe that believing in a God is the only way to be happy. THAT IS SO WRONG!
My gathered evidence:
1) The testament: "Thou shalt not kill" means that an individual of the Creed must not kill any other person of the same Creed without justification (as long as the person does not back down from the Creed, the person is safe).
2a) You can be happy without religion. This is why there are such things as humanism and perhaps speciesism. Humanism means to see the totalness of human beings, and not some supernatural and invisible entity that religion creates. Atheists are happy as well, as they usually see things on their own and have a lifestyle determined on their own, and not based on mechanics of a religious lifestyle.
2b) Adding to the above, Religion makes us feel weak, and unable to find our own happiness. I have seen this in Hinduistic people, as one person told me that they are 'not allowed' to follow a non-religious lifestyle for they would not find happiness and guidance without it. In the long run, people may feel deprived of something they may have been able to experience, but dedication to a Creed deterred the person from doing so.
3) As of the last century or so, Religion may not have caused wars, but in humanity's years before, it shouldn't come as surprising that religion sparked these events to happen (minus the Civil War, French Revolution, and American Revolution, perhaps).
4) Religion enforces conformity. However, opposed to this statement, there are people who are comfortable with conformity. Yet, conformity, to those who oppose it (I including), makes someone into something they are not, and results in a loss of indivuality. Individuality is something we non-conformists cherish.
5) Religion ignites superiority complexes. Some Creeds believe they are superior in every way to another.
6) Religion sparks lack of acceptance towards other Creeds. It seems that some Creeds despise the Hebrew religion (Catholics against Jewish is an example), and this is one of the biggest causes of wars throughout history. |

I totally agree, everyone is different, you should be able to be as you like as long as you dont enforce it upon others, or other suffer because of you.
The other statements could easily be concluded as "everyone has their own private god...". |

Wow... where to start?
Let me make it simple... *I* hate religion. Even Jesus Himself hated religion. What was it he called the religious? Oh yeah, "Painted tombs full of dead mens bones." (Translation - pretty on the outside - dead on the inside.)
There's a BIG difference between religion and relationship. Religion is one of the roots of all evil - relationship (with God) is the root of happiness that never 'wears out' gets 'old' burns out...
May you come to a place where the two are just as clear to you - as they are to me! |

| And how do you know you have a relationship and are not actually delusional? |

I do not believe. What really made me doubt was Moses mass murdering thousands of people and saying that it was the will of God - just like the Muslim terrorists. More likely that people who kill do so for their own gain and they are just lying that it is God's will. _________________ Read the advertisement rules:

I definately don't believe in religion. Just read some of these things from the Bible. It's full of uplifting events, which God apparently condones.
