Hi I'am new to this site and I know the introductions are on another page so I wont go to deep into an introduction but I will offer to you how I feel and what I have taken, done to help. I had a panic attack in a hairdressers 6 years ago and have had permanant anxiety and a complete phobia of social situations ever since, but its not really the people that make me anxious its the situation itself, I'm reasonably confident, intelligent, not bad looking. I dont get embarrassed I really dont care what people think I'am just so so scared of being in social situations which is why I cant understand if I have a social disorder or not , I didnt want to take meds for it because I think the heavy cocktail of drugs I took in my youth has caused it in the first place, I was that scared I couldnt see a doctor for 5 years I got scared queing up in shops I had to get my mother or my girlfriend to cut my hair, lost my job and cant face interviews. I have panic attacks if I get in a car, I cant visit friends and sit in fear in my own home about somebody comes round if they do I sneak off and sit in the bath until they leave,I look after my daughter less and less because I just get scared all the time thinking I'am trapped. Which has obviously then manifested itself in self doubt about me being a rubbish father/lover/son/friend. My mental health nurse seems to think putting a plaster on a severred leg seems to work(ps. to everyone too scared to see there GP because a. you are too scared and b. you think they are going to think you dont have a problem and say your a big girls blouse, firstly GP's see every embarassing problem you can think of on a daily basis and you will be amazed on how your issues are pretty recognised and how relaxed he/she will be, secondly you do have a problem I have had self doubt for ages about whether I actually have issues or am I just crap at life, NO you do have a problem and tell your GP what the problems are. The problem I had was that I just wanted to get out there as quick as possible so I wasn't very descriptive about my issues but you need to tell your GP "I HAVE PROBLEMS GET ME HELP".I have been on citalopram for 2 months and have just stopped if doesnt seem to be working, I saw a hypnotherapist for a few weeks which didnt help just cost a lot of money, I went to a chinese herbalist who said my ying yang balance was out and sold me some dodgy tea drink thing which tasted like pure evil it was like satan in a glass I'am not kidding you, I have tried a thing called EFT (emotional freedom traning) which gets you tapping certain meridian points around the head and torso, didnt work. My best advice from my own personal view is stop spending to much time in your head, admit you have a problem and get help, and smile whenever possible, I dont know what happiness is I dont know where to find it in my head all I know is fear and anxiety, but if you try to clear your mind and just smile about anything sometimes just sometimes the fear goes just for one second but its the best feeling of freedom I can find so please try it. good luck to everyone I mean it, and if your still awake thanks for reading, if anyone wants to chat I'am on my space as mikkers78, or my hotmail address is mikeyhedison@hotmail.com, I dont have any privacy problems so contact me at your own will I'am just abother sufferer |
