Hey guys. I thought I would share with you how I overcame my social anxiety. I have been a sufferer for over 20 years. I was determined to work through this problem and find the freedom on the other side that so many other people experience. I also knew that social anxiety only happened for me even though I knew other people who were shy or awkward sometimes but didn't seem to be bothered by it like I did. This led me to try everything until I discovered an answer which I did and it has changed my life. I wrote a blog about my experiences: http://www.anxietygone.blogspot.com/
feel free to check it out and write back to me what you think with any questions about anything.
thanks guys.

Here is my recommendation to anyone who is having trouble being there
true self because of anxiety. In the past I have had A great deal of trouble with social anxiety, it has only been lately that I have discovered my own simple method of getting rid of it. This easy procedure of getting rid of it is done by simply using your imagination. The Next time you are about to get stuck in a situation that you would normally feel awkward in, imagine how you would like to feel. Play out a scenario in your mind of yourself being how you would like to be. For instance, for myself I would like to be confident, happy, and relaxed. So I picture myself in my mind behaving like this and for the most part it actually becomes true. Go ahead and try it see if it works for you. It did for me.
Live at ease not in fear.

Ive tried to hold of the anxiety in social situtations by trying to think of positive things about myself. Quite simply no matter how hard I try this does not work for me. I cannot will it away even though I consider myself a strong willed person having quit both drinking and drugs both serious problems in my life and tobacco |

People with social anxiety are among the most cynical and pessimistic individuals around--that's why we lack confidence.
If you can make yourself feel better by simply "willing" it with positive thinking, then I salute you.
Quite honestly, I think everyone's solutions are different. Though we suffer from the same problem, we are still different people. Me, I simply cannot by swayed by syrup and sentiment. I am too much of a realist. But if I can gear my solutions towards my own preferences, I can perhaps go on with life without being crippled by SA. We will see. |

Self-help books only help some people-- not all. There is no 'answer.' People have to realize that. You don't magically get better.
Even if there is a success story, about someone going on and getting a family and getting a successful job, I guarantee you that person will still have to cope with it. It might not be every day, and it might be lessened a bit, but it's never going to disappear. |

I refuse to except that. It may not suddenly disappear, but it gets better for me all the time. |

I believe that repetition instills comfort. If you were forced into a situation where you had to do what you didn't want to do every day, you would eventually get used to it. Certainly, you would still be more sensitive than other people but it would not be as extreme a problem as it is when you're constantly avoiding it.
The problem is, most people prefer to avoid what they fear, so the first step towards some sort of comfort level is never made. |
