I havn't used OS X alot, but I have tried Vista. It is better than XP but it takes more out of your computer, it's faster and more user friendly than XP, but it can't match OS X. Personally I have to shut down Explorer (The GUI in windows) to run some games and avoid lag. Maybe that proves how crappy my comp is more than how crappy windows is. Laughing It's possible to do MORE stuff on Windows tho, and Vista is no exception. There are too few cross-platform applications to use with mac's godliness. Even though it's godlier on both the technical and user levels.

Quote:
In a nutshell, Vista vs. Mac OS X is Revolution vs. Evolution. It's about a massive, long-delayed upgrade that has to account for almost 6 years of progress by its competitors, versus a well-executed strategy of regular updates. While updating an operating system is never something that can be called easy, Apple's strategy has been the better one for keeping their OS on top of things, something Microsoft has admitted to in a roundabout way.

I like using Windows, everything a Mac can do it can do, so I'm happy with it. The only reason I'll never buy a Mac is because they cost more for less. You can get a better PC than a Mac of the same price. Also, all Macs look the same. If I wanted to buy something for the look of it I won't conform, I'll customise my PC.

I've been using Mac OSX for a while now. I used to use XP profesional. I love OSX. I actually cant think of any criticisms I have with it. Its a sleek, beautifully designed interface that is very intuitive to use. I find it easier to keep my files organised on OSX. Its incredibly reliable and stable. I've never used Vista, but surley its better to update something on a regular basis and iron out problems than to do nothing for 6 years and come out with something totally new thats going to have a lot of initial bugs and stuff. As for what you say PJ about the look: The beautifull designs of the macs themseleves are just the icing on the cake for me.

Since moving over to Mac I could never go back to Windows. I actually think most people would feel the same if they where willing to take the initial jump.

I agree that Macs look damn fine, but it's that they all look the same.

Besides I game, design, surf, do everything on my computer. Macs arn't the best for gaming that's why I'll be getting Vista in my new PC, WOOT DIRECT X 10!

I haven't used Mac OS X yet, but I have no problems with Mac. I am sure you can get multiple button mice, since the one button **** mouse was a bit of a hassle for me to do (Command button + click on a first person shooter game is a bit tedious). I sort of look past the appearance of a Macintosh since you're not looking at the fricken' case of the machine when you're using it; you're looking at the damn screen, which looks the same on pretty much any computer. Power + Reliability + Capabilities > Aesthetics. Windows has quite exceptional power, and its capabilities are dimmed by the current Macintosh commercials, but the Reliability is a mixed bag depending on the user (in Tyler's case, the user is perfectly fine with it). Though Macintosh may have all of those (maybe less capabilities than Windows for sure), it seems to rely on Aesthetics, which is part of the price of a computer, so in that case Apple loses money.

I haven't used Vista either. I don't have the dough to get it, and my computer isn't all that good anyway. I am going to get a new one and perhaps that will have Vista. I will get the Professional ($399.99 package, comes in a greyish pack) if I have to get it myself. I'm generally a gamer and once in a while I will tackle design and anything else, but my computer isn't good in any of those categories anymore. Which is why I want a new one. Until then, I don't have an opinion on either system.

Yeah, macs now come with the "mighty mouse" which has a left and right button, as well as several others. So the command click thing is a thing of the past now.

What are all of the buttons for? Web surfing? Gaming? Sounds like a joystick sort of system.

There are 5 buttons on the mighty mouse. One really cool thing about it is if you squeeze the side buttons all the windows that are open on top of one another all receed so as they are all in view, then you can select which one to view fully. Its so damn usefull when doing work with photoshop, illustrator and flash for example because switching between applications and documents can become a nightmare when you have a bunch of things open at the same time. Its small things like that that I love about my mac. Just little things that make my life a little easier.

Well I have software that configures the buttons differently depending what program I have open. In IE the two side buttons are Forward and Back.

That seems like a great idea (Window receeding), but I'm fine with the Start bar right now. That's mainly because I have one of those object docks just like on macs that I can switch to any other open program.

VISTA is the best. Of course im only using RC2 right now but i have no problems at all with it. In its beta form its still better than XP. I never tried OSX so i cant compare. VISTA is like no other os in as far as memory management. When you open a 3d application like games or even photoshop VISTA shuts down other applications like areo glass so you have the memory you need. But of course its meant for newer machines.

Of course it needs to shut down stuff before you play etc. Pretty looking OS' with lots of effects like OS X and Vista eat up system resources.

Thats why its meant for newer rigs, just like any other os that has come out in the past. You cant expect to run VISTA on a rig with only 512 ran and a 20gig hd. Just like when XP came out ppl complained that it was a hog, VISTA isnt any different. Its new and as ppl get new rigs they will get VISTA and really get to see how well it performs. So far that i have see, the ones that complain about it havent even tried it or if they have it was on an old rig. Smile

Can I ask you a question that has no offense directed to you at all?

Are you a fanboy of Windows Vista? Yes or No?
