Do you do any sport or exercise? I don't do any sport (not enough time), but I just bought a dumbbell set and am starting to do some weight training for hypertrophy. _________________ You can only advertise in your signature or in the Unmoderated forum. | well in yoga I do all sorts of beginner poses. Nothing too hard. But there are a lot of stretching poses that work on flexability. I also do balance poses. You use the weight of your own body to strengthen yourself. |

I've changed my diet. Now I'm monitoring what I eat and recording it down. I've found that I can lose weight this way without doing any cardio. We'll see how it goes.
My goal is to lose enough body fat so that I can look alright in a tight shirt! |

As a kid I used to be active in hockey, football, soccer, baseball, track & field and schoolyard fighting. Currently I just golf, and play hockey on an outdoor rink for fun with friends and family.
Now that I am working full time on our dairy farm, most of my exercise comes from doing manual labour. Lifting, carrying, loading, or piling anything and everything.
In some of my free time I exercise using weights at home. I do sit ups, chin ups and workout on my punching bag as well. I do some running and cardio type workouts sometimes. Once I move out and go to college, I will start doing these workouts more seriously and more often.
I also practice boxing and mixed martial arts on my brother, dog and cows. |

| Do you do squats? What's the best way to do something similar without a squat rack? |

Yeah, I think squats are one of the most important exercises. I don't have a squat rack. I just use a large barbell that I pick up off the ground. I do them like this picture shows.
I guess if you don't have one of those large barbells. You could use two dumbells. Holding them over your shoulders, or at your sides, and do the squats. |

How long is your barbell? Standard or olympic? I'm thinking of buying one but they come in different lengths and types.
how do you get into that position without a rack? How do you get rid of the weights when you've finished? |

I don't know what size it is exactly, my guess would be Standard. I just use the old barbells and dumbells that my dad has lying around, that he used when he was younger.
To get in that position I just lift the barbell off the floor, then lift it over my head onto my shoulders. Then to get it off, I lift it over my head to my chest, then set it back on the floor. It works if you are strong enough to lift the weight like that, but if you are using a weight you can't handle like that, then a rack would be useful. |

How big is the bar diamater on the sides - 1 or 2 inches?
| Quote: | Olympic Barbell
Olympic plates have a central hole that is two inches (51 mm) wide. The outer portions of Olympic barbells are also two inches wide. Seven foot Olympic barbells weigh about 20 kg, roughly equivalent to 45 lb.
An Olympic bar is a 86 inch, 45lb steel or chrome bar that is used for weight training. It is the standard used in competitive weightlifting sports where men and women compete at the highest level - the Commonwealth Games and the Olympics. The max weight for this barbell is 450kg(1000lbs).
[edit] Standard Barbell
Standard plates have a central hole that is one inch (25 mm) wide. Standard barbells are one inch wide all the way along. Standard barbells typically weigh 10 kg, roughly equivalent to 22 lb. |

| Yeah it's definately a Standard barbell. It is nothing special and when I move out in the Summer I will definately be getting a more quality weight set, and creating an exercise room with a bunch of different equipment. |
